In celebrating our first year anniversary in owning cavies we finally decided to create our own Website. The Manila Cavies. We came up with the name Manila Cavies or ‘MANICA’
Samantha
It was end of January when we bought our first pair of cavy, we named them Shadow and Bella. They are actually just a gift for Samantha , the cavies are so adorable and timid. We browse through the net to learn more about cavies and we found out that there this association promoting guinea pigs where We became one of them February of the same year. It is the PILIPINAS CAVY FANCIERS INC (PCFi) and after a few months of being a member, One of Us was appointed to be the President for the North Manila Cavy Club . And the cavy that is supposed to be just a gift is now our hobby. Then We started to breed look and purchased different kinds of guinea pigs. (Peruvian,Satin,Alpaca,Coronet, sheltie and Texel) And the rest is HISTORY
PCFi was a big help especially for a beginner like us. We managed to grow our pair of lovely cavies to a bigger number. We Attended Cavy Shows as an expectator from different places like Las Pinas, Paranaque and the 1st time we participated in a show was in Tiendesitas, Pasig last October 2010 which Levy my Alpaca cavy won the “Best of Breed” category for alpaca
Taking on any pets requires a commitment on a proper care. They will need an attention, daily care and feeding like most pets does. We clean their cages twice a week or as needed, we make sure to change their water every day and give them food such as hays and vegetables as these are a good source of vitamin C because guinea pigs suffers from their very common illness Vitamin C Deficiency. During summer last year, it was the very first difficult time for us and for our cavies. Because of the strong heat we came to a point that we need to stop breeding because baby cavies might die. Unfortunately, we lost some of our beloved Guinea pig. And it is always a part of owning pets.
Guinea pigs I may say an ideal pet for Us, they are happily left alone provided they have the companionship of other guinea pigs while we’re away to work or we’re not at home
Cavies take away our stress; we can just sit and hold them in our lap. So sit back, relax and enjoy!
